Virginie is Business Unit Manager at City Electric in Luxembourg. In this managerial role, she is responsible for the day-to-day management, the direction of the team and the setting up and organisation of projects.
Do you think there is a synergy between men and women in the workplace?
Virginie: Yes, there is. Men and women do not have the same way of thinking and working. Both have strengths that form a refreshing combination. It is a major asset when companies realise this. We are seeing more and more women in technical professions and we absolutely must encourage this evolution. It is the same with sweet and salt flavours. They both have a totally different taste, but put the two together and the result is a delicious experience. A team is always more than the sum of its parts. Achieving impressive goals is easier when we work together than when we are alone.
What makes VINCI Energies unique?
Virginie: First and foremost, it is the company values. Our individual values are clear as day: solidarity, trust, entrepreneurship, responsibility and empowerment. Combining these pillars leads to great results. VINCI Energies is a large group with a high impact, but at the same time it is also divided into smaller structures, which is what makes the company so magical. Moreover, these structures are human-sized, which means that everyone knows each other through and through. At other large companies where I have worked, that close bond does not exist. Being there for each other and getting things moving together is something rare that we at VINCI Energies should cherish.
How do you look to the future?
Virginie: I have never been able to answer that question. I prefer to take things one step at a time. I keep developing myself in the domains that interest me and where there are still certain gaps in my knowledge. VINCI Energies is the perfect environment for learning. In addition to the training courses offered, I work with highly professional people who challenge me to develop myself. It is only by leaving our comfort zone that we grow. My entire professional career is based on my gut feeling. I have always taken the opportunities that came my way, rather than making plans in advance. Today, I intend to continue in that vein. It is this way of thinking that made me a manager at the age of 41. I could not be happier. I truly believe that this is the most beautiful profession there is.
